Latest Malayalam movie ‘Tharangam’ began its box office journey on an average note. Directed by Dominic Arun, the Malayalam language celluloid witnessed a good occupancy on opening day. Featuring Tovino Thomas, Santhy Balachandran, Balu Varghese, Neha Iyer and Vijayaraghavan in main roles, the south Indian film received positive reviews from the critics and mixed feedback from the audiences.
In the morning shows on Friday, public occupancy was quite good. The occupancy remained steady in the noon shows and increased in the evening and night shows. As Friday was working day, the latest south Indian film witnessed decent number of footfalls of film-watchers in the theatres. Releasing on 106 screens in Kerala, the movie gained moderate response from the spectators.
Declined number of audiences in the cinema halls was the only result of box office clash with adjacently released Malayalam movie ‘Sherlock Toms’ and Telugu film ‘Spyder’. Earning a record breaking amount of Rs 41.5 crore on opening day, Mahesh Babu and Rakul Preet Singh starrer spy thriller action offering divulged a major chunk of audiences. Jr NTR starrer new film ‘Jai Lava Kusa’ too affected the business of ‘Tharangam’ in domestic arena.
Bollywood movie ‘Judwaa 2’ also drove a huge attention of most of the spectators in the cinema halls and impacted the performances of new Malayalam releases. ‘Sherlock Toms’ too witnessed a poor response on its first day of release. Produced under the banner of ‘Mini Studio’, ‘Tharangam’ is expected to experience surge in the number of movie-watchers in theatres and multiplexes across the state in weekend days.
