The much-awaited film, Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, hit the silver screen on June 16, 2023. However, this ambitious project falls short of expectations, leaving audiences disappointed. With its high production cost of Rs 600 Crores, it’s puzzling where the budget was allocated because the overall quality of the movie fails to impress. Regrettably, Adipurush receives a meager rating of 1/2 star.

Deviation from the Original Ramayana

Adipurush deviates significantly from the beloved Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana, which holds a special place in our hearts. To fully enjoy Adipurush, it is necessary to detach oneself from any expectations linked to the classic series.

Manipulating the Storyline

The movie makers hyped Adipurush as a modern interpretation of the Ramayana for the current era, but in doing so, they have taken liberties with the original story. In a particularly distasteful scene, Lord Ram supposedly witnesses Goddess Sita’s abduction by the cruel Ravana, which contradicts the essence of the tale.

Subpar Visual Effects

Despite the initial hype surrounding the VFX showcased in the movie’s teaser, the actual VFX in Adipurush falls short. It is clear that the quality in the teaser was far superior, leaving audiences disappointed by the subpar visual effects throughout the film. Moreover, the absence of real locations and reliance on green screens further hampers the overall visual experience.

The Commercialization of Ramayana

Adipurush seems to be more focused on capitalizing on the popularity of Ramayana rather than delivering a meaningful cinematic experience. Unfortunately, the director and writer of the film neglected to conduct thorough research on the original text, resulting in a disappointing and poorly executed adaptation.

Modernized Depiction of Characters

The portrayal of Goddess Sita in modern attire feels out of place and deviates from the traditional representation of the character. Moreover, the lead actor, Prabhas, who plays Lord Ram, lacks the emotional depth necessary to bring the character to life, rendering his performance robotic and unconvincing.

Poor Dialogue and Language

Adipurush suffers from subpar dialogue and language that fails to do justice to the epic tale of Ramayana. The poorly crafted lines do not resonate with the gravity and grandeur associated with this revered story.

Music’s Limited Impact

The movie’s music attempts to engage the audience, and it succeeds to some extent during the first half. However, as the film progresses, even the music fails to salvage the experience, leaving viewers disconnected and disinterested.

Lack of Substance

Adipurush attempts to transform the Ramayana into a superhero spectacle, but it falls short in delivering a substantial narrative. The movie lacks depth and fails to capture the essence of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita’s story.

Given the inaccuracies and creative liberties taken with the story, Adipurush is not a recommended reference for children to understand the tale of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. Parents are advised to instead introduce their children to the authentic and timeless Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana.

Weak Character Development

Actress Kriti Sanon’s role as Goddess Sita is disappointingly minimal, and her potential remains largely untapped. Similarly, the character of Lakshman receives minimal screen time and fails to leave a lasting impact on the audience.

In conclusion, Adipurush falls short of expectations as a cinematic adaptation of the beloved Ramayana. With its deviations from the original storyline, poor execution of visual effects, lackluster performances, weak dialogue, and commercial approach, the film fails to capture the essence and depth of the revered epic. It is advisable to revisit the timeless Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana to truly appreciate the tale of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.
